Wyatt Gentry Memorial Scholarship

Wyatt James Gentry (14), the youngest son of Sam and Renee Gentry, and brother to Kelsey and Levi Gentry, died tragically in an accident on June 25th, 2009.  As a home-school student, a singer, a musician, an artist, and a theatrical performer, he is being remembered by his family and friends.  Wyatt was with us for only 14 short years; however, he blazed trails and created relationships that most of us would only dream of.  He was a young man full of adventure, excitement, compassion, and encouragement.  Wyatt always had a million dollar smile and a hug/ hand shake for anyone…..yes, even strangers.  The family, community, and theatrical spirit he fostered are the inspiration for this scholarship.

The Newnan Community Theatre Company (NCTC) has kindly agreed to continue to be the official “sponsor” of the scholarship.  We have now begun accepting applications from students for this 2012 scholarship opportunity.  The deadline for receiving all applications is February 28, 2012.  Current attending college students along with graduating seniors who attend or have attended high school in Coweta, Fayette, Carroll, Meriwether, and Heard County and who plan to attend an accredited college or university in the United States and who plan to major or minor in “Fine Arts” are eligible to apply for this $1000.00 scholarship.  The Fine Arts commonly include visual and performing art forms such as painting, sculpture, music, dance, theatre, architecture, and photography.   If you are aware of any 2012 graduating seniors or any students presently enrolled and attending college who might be interested in this scholarship opportunity, please share this information.

Although attention will be given by the selection committee to such factors as the applicant’s academic performance and financial need, heavy emphasis will be placed on the applicant’s personal involvement in community activities and what he or she has done to make their community a better place in which to live.  Potential candidates desiring a scholarship application should contact your school leadership (Principal, Counselor or Head Administrator) or Mr. Sam Gentry himself at samuel.gentry@lmco.com.

We are in continual need and are accepting donations and contributions for this scholarship.  Our desire, at a minimum, is to continue each year to be able to offer one student the $1000.00 scholarship award.  Our dream is to offer two students a $1000.00 scholarship award.  One dollar, five dollars, ten dollars - it all adds up very quickly for this scholarship fund, so please consider partnering with us to share a wonderful opportunity to assist a young person who desires to take part in higher education.
