Ever wonder if you have what it takes to do improvisational comedy? Here’s your chance to try! Newnan Theatre Company is offering a series of workshops in improvisational comedy on the first three Saturdays in November. Newnan Theatre Company’s improve troupe, N.I.T.W.I.T.S., led by Bert Lyons, will be hosting the workshops, leading participants in movement exercises, discussions of the “rules of improvisation,” and other comedic skill lessons.
These workshops are free to the public. All you have to do is sign-up! The first session starts at 12:30 p.m. on November 4. All of the Saturday workshops will be held at Newnan Theatre Company on their Mainstage venue. Participants should wear comfortable clothing and closed-toe shoes.
Newnan Theatre Company’s improvisational comedy troupe, N.I.T.W.I.T.S., began ten years ago to bring something more than “just plays” to the community. With shows like “Whose Line Is It Anyway?” becoming a major hit on television, both the original British version and the American version hosted by Drew Carey, the troupe wanted to bring improvisational theatre home. N.I.T.W.I.T.S. performs between nine and ten shows a year at Newnan Theatre Company. Most of the shows have a theme, which allows the audience to suggest topics, specific locations, or objects, as the players then base a comedy sketch around the suggestions.
“It’s a lot of fun,” says longtime N.I.T.W.I.T.S. patron Mike Marchese. “We always plan an evening around a N.I.T.W.I.T.S. show. Our whole group goes out to dinner, and then we head to NTC for a couple of hours of fun and laughter.”
The improvisation workshops begin Saturday, November 4th, and will continue the next two Saturdays. There are a limited number of spaces available. If you are interested, contact Tony Daniel, Artistic Director of Newnan Theatre Company and reserve your spot at firstname.lastname@example.org or by calling 770.683.6282.
