Picasso at the Lapin Agile

By Steve Martin
Black Box
February 4–7, 11–14, 2016

This absurdist comedy places Albert Einstein and Pablo Picasso in a Parisian cafe in 1904, just before the renowned scientist transformed physics with his theory of relativity and the celebrated painter set the art world afire with cubism. In his first comedy for the stage, the popular actor and screenwriter plays fast and loose with fact, fame and fortune and has the two geniuses muse on the century's achievements and prospects as well as other fanciful topics with infectious dizziness. Picasso' agent, the bartender and his mistress, Picasso's date, an elderly philosopher, Charles Dabernow Schmendimen, and an idiot inventor introduce additional flourishes of humor. Then a surprise patron - a charismatic dark-haired singer time warped in from a later era - joins the merriment at the Lapin Agile. To purchase tickets to this event click here.

Sylvia, by A.R. Gurney, concerns a married couple, Greg and Kate, who have moved to Manhattan after twenty-two years of child-raising in the suburbs. Greg's career as a financial trader is winding down, while Kate's career, as a public-school English teacher, is beginning to offer her more opportunities. Greg brings home a dog he found in the park—or that has found him—bearing only the name "Sylvia" on her name tag. A street-smart mixture of Lab and Poodle, Sylvia becomes a major bone of contention between husband and wife. She offers Greg an escape from the frustrations of his job and the unknowns of middle age. To Kate, Sylvia becomes a rival for affection. And Sylvia thinks Kate just doesn't understand the relationship between man and dog. The marriage is put in serious jeopardy until, after a series of hilarious and touching complications, Greg and Kate learn to compromise, and Sylvia becomes a valued part of their lives.

Auditions will be on Feb. 21st and 22nd, in the Newnan Theatre Company Black Box Theatre, and will run from 7 pm to 9 pm both nights. Newnan Theatre Company announces auditions for the musical comedy The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee by Rachel Sheinkin, music and lyrics by William Finn on February 28th and 29th. Directed by Andrew Miller, The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee will be presented on May 12-22, 2016, on the NTC Mainstage.

An eclectic group of six pre-teens vie for the spelling championship of a lifetime. While candidly disclosing hilarious and touching stories from their home life, the kids spell their way through a series of words, hoping never to hear the soul-crushing, pout-inducing, "ding" of the bell that signals a spelling mistake. Six spellers enter; one speller leaves! At least the losers get a juice box. A riotous ride complete with audience participation, The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee is a fast-paced crowd pleaser and an instant classic.

Auditions will be on Feb. 28th and 29th, in the Newnan Theatre Black Box, and will run from 7 pm to 9:30 pm both nights. Auditions will consist of prepared singing, a short dance combo, and some cold reading. We ask that auditioners prepare a song from the show for the character you wish to audition for.

March 10–13, 17–20, 2016

In a plantation house, a family celebrates the sixty-fifth birthday of “Big Daddy,” but the mood is somber because a number of evils poison the celebration. Greed, sins of the past, and desperate, clawing hopes for the future spar with one another as the knowledge that Big Daddy is dying slowly makes the rounds. His daughter-in-law Maggie wants to tell him she's finally pregnant, her husband Brick prefers to stay in a mild alcoholic haze, and the other conniving relatives are all eager to see Maggie put in her place and Brick tumbled from his position of most-beloved son. 2015-16 Season tickets

2015-16 Season Tickets are on sale now!

More than just a ticket to every show...

At Newnan Theatre Company, our season tickets are a little different. When you purchase our season ticket, you actually purchase a set number of admissions. For example, our regular season ticket is good for 10 admissions - however you wish to use them. You could attend every show in our season once and use 10 admissions, or attend five shows and bring a friend to each one (5 x 2 = 10). This system offers you total flexibility in how you use your admissions, and you never feel like you have to see every show in our season lineup, just the ones that appeal to you!

Season ticket holders enjoy discounted admission, special reserved seating (with a chocolate on your seat!), and invitations to "members only" events and performances.

As an NTC season ticket holder, you also enjoy knowing you are supporting live theatre in your community. Season Tickets are a great gift for the theatre lover in your life!
